Introducing Roman Liberda, frontend developer and UX specialist at The Information Factory. Here's a glimpse of Roman's journey from redesigning websites to building full applications for major clients across Europe.
"Technology has fascinated me since childhood and so has art. The two are closely connected. I see building applications and solving problems as a form of creative work. At the end of the design process, there is a result that improves people's lives. And when people enjoy using the interface, I am truly fulfilled.
I was 12 when my cousin began building websites. I was drawn to the idea that they could look better. He was very technical and I had a sense for how things should look and feel. So we split the roles. Looking back, I think that was when I started gravitating toward frontend development and UX.
Working with The Information Factory has given me the exposure to major clients I wouldn't otherwise have reached.
What Drives Me
Developing something useful, whether generating revenue, simplifying processes or making life easier is what drives me. When positive feedback comes directly from users, you know it was worth it.
I'm proud of having transitioned from graphic design to full application development. Recently I've been working on LogiCAT – a costing allocation tool for logistics operators. We built it from scratch and had to anticipate a lot of things along the way. This kind of development is always more challenging. And more rewarding.
Work-Life Balance
I'm learning to maintain a better work-life balance, so I've been revisiting hobbies from my youth: singing, playing guitar, drawing. For pure relaxation, I really enjoy listening to music, especially classic rock from the '70s and '80s. Putting on a vinyl LP and getting lost in it is a great way to unwind. I'm also a fan of '80s and '90s cinema.
As much as I like peaceful indoor activities, I also love the outdoors. The last big journey I made was driving across Europe, sleeping in tents along the way. I remember being amazed by Slovenia and its nature. Simple, but it's the kind of experience that stays with you. And in the summer, just sitting by a fire is the perfect way for me to reset."
